While Karvansarai is primarily focused on designing trips with a conservation ethos, Alon and Alessandra come from a hospitality background and continue to do hotel consulting, short stints as relief managers and specialised guiding. This allows them to create trips for Karvansarai travellers that meet their high service and environmental standards.
Rainforests boast a spectacular biodiversity holding an estimated half of the world’s species of flora and fauna. As former Head Guide at Odzala Discovery Camps and Sangha Lodge, Alon is one of few guides who are specialised in the Congo Basin. He will introduce you to the intricate nature of the world’s second largest rainforest by trekking to find Western Lowland Gorillas, Forest Elephants, giant trees, multitudes of butterflies, and the elusive pangolin. Connecting to such a diverse and vast environment, beyond the apparent, can take time. With the ease of an experienced guide, you can engage more profoundly with the forest, immersing yourself meaningfully and gaining deeper understanding of its complexity and grandeur.
Alon and Alessandria’s combined background of hotel management, maintenance and guiding in remote locations together with their commitment to the highest service standards and passion for conservation make them ideal managers for eco lodges and camps in wild places.
Alessandra’s career in hospitality began with the Conrad Bangkok. Subsequently she worked with the opening team of the Aman New Delhi and then held various positions at SUJAN Luxury Hotels, including as Resident Manager of their Relais & Chateaux property, Sher Bagh, in Ranthambhore, India. In this last position of managing a luxury tented camp in a tiger reserve she found a place that had made her dream of meaningful and responsible travel a reality.
After qualifying as a FGASA certified guide, Alon joined Sangha Lodge, in the Central African Republic, as a naturalist guide. He soon became skilled in all aspects of lodge management working in the challenging environment of the Congo Basin rainforest combined with a practical approach to his work. After a stretch as Head Guide with the Congo Conservation Company in Odzala-Kokoua National Park, Republic of Congo Alon returned to Sangha Lodge to assist with a complete renovation of the property. Alon is now expanding on his passion for travel and conservation, sharing his experience from the Congo Basin to lodges and camps around the world.
